Going through a Medical Evaluation Board (MEB), Physical Evaluation Board (PEB), or Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) is not the same thing as filing a traditional VA disability claim.

The decisions and documentation developed while you are still on active duty can follow you long after separation. Getting the medical side organized correctly at the beginning matters.

Veterans Evidence provides physician-led medical evidence consulting for servicemembers navigating this process.

And in these cases, physician-led means something more: the physician working with our MEB/PEB clients has personally gone through the military medical evaluation and separation process himself.

He understands the process not simply from reading regulations or reviewing other people's cases, but from having personally navigated it as a servicemember and physician. That firsthand familiarity, combined with his medical expertise and our experience developing evidence for VA disability matters, gives us a unique perspective on these cases.

Veterans Evidence operates on a referral and invitation-only basis. We intentionally maintain a selective client roster in order to preserve physician involvement, strategic consistency, quality control, and the integrity of our process. Most referrals originate with prior clients, other physicians, or accredited attorneys, agents, and VSOs that we know and trust. Not everyone is a good fit and we are very comfortable with being selective about the cases that we will accept.

One of the most important things we can do is get involved early.

During the MEB/IDES process, you will reach a point where you are asked to identify the medical conditions that need to be evaluated. This is not something we believe should be done from memory or by simply listing whatever conditions immediately come to mind.

We start by reviewing your available military, VA, and civilian medical records.

We look for diagnoses, chronic symptoms, injuries, secondary conditions, medication effects, missing medical development, and other conditions documented throughout your history that may be relevant to the process.

From that review, we develop an organized, medically supported list for you to use when completing the applicable paperwork.

You complete the government forms. We make sure you understand what is actually in your medical record before you do.

The military and VA are making different determinations.

The military is concerned with whether medical conditions affect your fitness for continued service. The VA evaluates service-connected disabilities and assigns disability ratings through the IDES process.

Our job is not to control that process. Our job is to make sure the medical side of your case is developed intelligently from the beginning.

That means identifying conditions early, recognizing weaknesses or missing evidence, allowing the required evaluations to occur, and knowing when additional physician evidence becomes useful.

Yes, you will attend C&P exams. This is an important distinction from our approach to many traditional VA claims.

MEB/PEB/IDES clients should expect to attend their required C&P examinations.

We allow the process to develop. As examinations are completed and the case progresses, we can review the findings against the underlying medical record and determine whether additional evidence is needed.

Later in the process, that may include independent DBQs or other physician evidence addressing conditions that were inadequately evaluated, inconsistencies in the examinations, or other medical issues requiring further development.

We don't create unnecessary paperwork simply for the sake of creating it. We develop evidence when it has a strategic purpose.

Your case is not handed to someone who simply checks diagnoses against a list.

Our physicians review the medicine, the history, the examinations, and the evidence as the case develops.

For MEB/PEB clients in particular, there is tremendous value in having a physician who has personally sat on the servicemember's side of this process and understands how it unfolds from the inside.

There is a difference between knowing what an MEB/PEB is and actually having navigated one.

Our clients benefit from both that firsthand experience and the medical expertise necessary to evaluate what is happening in their case.

The condition bothering you the most is not necessarily the only condition that matters. A diagnosis appearing somewhere in your chart does not automatically mean it will affect your military disposition. And the conditions relevant to your military fitness determination are not necessarily identical to the conditions that ultimately matter for your VA disability rating.

That is why we look at the whole medical picture.

Our goal is not to throw every conceivable diagnosis at the process. Our goal is to identify what the evidence actually supports, understand where additional development is needed, and build the strongest medically defensible record possible.

Our involvement does not necessarily end when the military process ends.

Once you separate or medically retire, we can review the resulting military disposition and VA rating to determine whether the medical evidence supports further action.

When appropriate, we can also assist with medical evidence related to Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC).

Servicemembers affected by concurrent receipt limitations should also stay informed regarding the Major Richard Star Act, which could significantly affect certain medically retired Veterans if enacted.

The same rules that apply to every Veterans Evidence client apply here.

We will not exaggerate symptoms. We will not manufacture diagnoses. We will not create unsupported DBQs. We will not chase a rating that the medical evidence cannot support.

We will identify what is actually there, tell you what we see, and develop it aggressively when the medicine supports it.

Our MEB/PEB engagement begins with a $3,000 fee, which covers our initial physician-led medical record review, identification of conditions, and development of the medical evidence strategy as the case moves through the MEB/PEB process.

Later, when the case reaches the appropriate stage, an additional $1,000 covers the development of necessary DBQs and supporting physician evidence.
